Ocean Scattering Services in Key West

Some people spend their lives drawn to the water. The salt air, the endless horizon, the rhythm of waves against the shore—for them, the ocean was never just a place to visit. It was where they felt most alive, most at peace, most themselves. If that describes someone you love, ocean scattering offers a way to return them to the waters they cherished.

Stauffer-Breznik Funeral Home has partnered with licensed funeral professionals in Key West, Florida to provide families throughout Schuylkill County and Pennsylvania with a meaningful ocean scattering service. This is not an impersonal package shipped through the mail. From the moment your loved one's cremated remains leave our Ringtown facility until they are released into the warm waters of the Florida Keys, they are accompanied by professionals who understand the weight of what they carry.

What Makes Our Service Unique

  • Personal Transportation: Your loved one's cremated remains are personally transported to Key West by our licensed funeral director.
  • Professional Placement: Unlike traditional sea scatterings, our certified scuba diving funeral directors ensure precise placement on a beautiful wreck or reef when scuba diving.
  • EPA Compliance: We handle all required EPA notifications and state documentation.
  • Documentation: Receive a certificate detailing the exact location of the memorial site
  • Photos and Video: We will provide documentation of the scattering.

The Ocean Scattering Process

Understanding what to expect can bring peace of mind during an already difficult time. Here is how our Key West ocean scattering service works from start to finish.

After cremation is complete and you have decided on ocean scattering, we coordinate with our Key West partners to schedule the service. We discuss any specific requests you may have—particular timing, the type of underwater location you prefer, or any personal touches you want included.

When the scheduled date approaches, a licensed funeral director personally transports your loved one's cremated remains to Key West. Upon arrival, they coordinate with our diving team to confirm conditions and finalize details.

On the day of the scattering, the certified scuba diving funeral director enters the water at the chosen site. They descend to the wreck or reef location and release the cremated remains with care and respect. The entire process is documented through underwater photography and video.

Following the scattering, we compile your documentation package: the GPS coordinates certificate, photographs, video footage, and confirmation that all legal requirements were fulfilled. This package is sent to you so you have a permanent record of your loved one's final resting place.

Our Commitment

We understand that choosing a final resting place is a profound decision. Our team is dedicated to providing a meaningful experience that honors your loved one's connection to the ocean while adhering to all legal requirements and environmental regulations.

Legal Compliance

All services are conducted in full compliance with:

  • Marine Protection, Research and Sanctuaries Act
  • EPA regulations for sea burial
  • Any Florida state requirements
  • Any Local Key West ordinances
