Joseph Ziolko Obituary

Joseph A. Ziolko, 89, a resident of Brandonville, passed away on October 29th, 2023.

Joseph was born in Zion Grove on July 12, 1934, a son of the late Joseph and Frances (Markosky) Ziolko.  He was a life long heavy equipment mechanic, having retired from Kaminski Brothers Construction in Pittston.

In his younger years, he and his siblings had a polka band, the Ziolko Brothers Orchestra, in which he played the trumpet.  His love of music lasted a lifetime, as he enjoyed dancing and country music, inspiring many trips with his wife to Branson.  A member of the Sheppton American Legion Post, and the former Citizens Fire Company in Brandonville, Joe played in the finger leagues and was a dart shooter.  Throughout his lifetime, he was passionate about training his German shepherds.

More recently, Joe enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Frank, Anthony and Edward Ziolko.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ruth (Sands) Zioko, and his two daughters, Lorrie, wife of Brian Deffley and Kimberly Jo, wife of Mario Curreli.  Four grandchildren, Erin Plaksa, Kirstyn Kankowski, Connor Deffley and Joseph Kankowski, along with two great grandchildren, Anthony and Alexander Plaksa survive.

A brother Robert Ziolko and a sister Frances Brestowski also survive along with nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service on Friday, November 3rd, 2023 at 11 AM at St. John's Lutheran Church, Park Avenue, Brandonville.  A time for visitation will be held from 10-11 AM, and Joe will laid to rest immediately following the service at the Brandonville Union Cemetery.
