John E. Rumbel, a well known resident of Ringtown, passed away peacefully at home on November 23,2023, at the age of 69.
Born in the former Locust Mountain Hospital, Shenandoah, John was the son of the late Charles and Elsie (Trexler) Rumbel. His roots in the local community were deep, and he leaves behind a legacy that will be fondly remembered by those who knew him. John was a life long self-employed farmer who worked the land with passion and dedication. He operated Rumbel's Roadside Stand for many years with his family, where he became well-known for his exceptional apple cider. Best known to his friends as Henry, John often said he never worked a day in his life because he loved what he did. John, being community minded, was always available to plow snow for Union Township and collect Christmas trees for the Ringtown boy scouts. John enjoyed driving tractor trailer and hauling christmas trees for sale; another passion he passed along to his son. After his retirement, he could be found enjoying the farm with his grandchildren on the golf cart. He enjoyed having coffee and adventuring with his pal Michael Kravetz.
A dedicated member of the Aurand Memorial United Church of Christ in Ringtown, his unwavering commitment to his faith was evident through over 50 years of perfect Sunday School attendance. During his younger days, John was a member of the church bowling league, a member of the Ringtown Fire Company, and active in the forestry.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Charles A Rumbel, and by his sister and brother in-law Catherine and Roger Shoup.
John is survived by his loving wife, Michelle (Fetterolf)Rumbel, along with his children, Myles John Rumbel, John David Rumbel, Rebecca Letta (Rumbel) Hoffman and Emily Rose Rumbel.
He leaves behind his beloved grandchildren to cherish his memory, Noah Rumbel, Noel Rumbel, Raegan Rumbel, Ridge Rumbel, Johanna Hoffman and Tucker Hoffman, along with his sister, Esther Mastauskas and nieces and nephews.
A Funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 30th at 11 AM in the Aurand Memorial United Methodist Church on Main Street in Ringtown.
