John J. Mays, 71, of Ringtown, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 3rd, 2022.
John was born in Shenandoah, on January 5, 1951, a son of the late Helen (Gardinsky) and Ben "Red" Mays.
He was a graduate of the former Shenandoah Catholic High School, and was the founder and original owner of Valley Beverage in Ringtown, along with several other business ventures, including being the founder of Darkrun Jerky in 1994, which he later passed on to his son. He also worked for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, retiring as a highway foreman.
John enjoying fishing and was one of the charter members of the Rodbenders Fishing club in Ringtown, where he served as president for 30 years.
John enjoyed watching sports, spending time with his many friends and his grandchildren. He was an avid storyteller, readily sharing stories of his full life.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bernie Mays.
John is survived by his two children, son, Jordan Mays (Savanna), and his daughter Kassie Bowman (Corey), along with their mother, Angel Mays, and a step son, David Moses. He is also survived by his grandchildren, whom he adored, Reagan Mays, Archer Bowman and Aubrey Moses, as well as anxiously awaiting another grandson at the end of this month.
His sister, Joann Zogby also survives as do nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held in John's Honor the Rodbenders Fising Club in Ringtown on Saturday May 21st at 3 PM.
