John S. Burkevage, 67, of Zion Grove, passed away on April 15, at his home after a brief illness.
Born in Shenandoah, on January 17, 1956, he was the son of the late Stanley and Stella (Socker) Burkevage.
John graduated from North Schuylkill High School in 1973 and then proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He then graduated from the North American Training Academy in Newark, DE. John was a truck driver most of his life, most recently employed by Rands Trucking, Ringtown.
In addition to being a former member of the Ringtown American Legion, he was a Past Commander of the Schuylkill Haven American Legion, Post 38. He was also a member of Shenandoah Fish & Game Club.
Surviving are three sisters; Jean Burkevage, Hazleton, Helena Sterner and her husband, Eugene, Orangeville, Joann Burke, Bear, DE, niece Janette Ortman and her husband, Arthur, of Millville, and their children, Arthur, Ambrelinne Birth and her husband, Nathan, and their daughter, Nathalinne; niece Tina Wilson and her husband, Bill, of Wilmington, DE and their children, Ella & Nathan; niece Kelly Markish, King of Prussia; step son, Jason Walton and his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Jordan J. Burkevage, who passed away in 2008, a nephew, Richard Markish, who passed away in 2022.
A public viewing will be held Monday, April 24th from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Stauffer-Breznik Funeral Home, 412 W. Main Street, Ringtown, with services to follow at 1:00PM with Pastor Craig Zimmerman.
Interment will be private at the convenience of the family in Old White Church Cemetery.
