Ellen Louise Worley, 97, of Reading, passed away Saturday, April 8, 2023, at the Pro Medica Nursing Home in Laureldale. Born July 28, 1925, in Philadelphia, Ellen was the daughter of the late Paul Jack Swomley and Ruth Agnes Rumble Swomley, whom were residents of the Ringtown Valley. Ellen attended Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Indiana and Ohio State University, in Columbus, OH, where she studied chemistry and botany.
As a young, energetic mother of nine children, Ellen was a member of the N.F.A. (Natural Food Association). She was very much a pioneer in nutrition and organic gardening, using that knowledge throughout her life. Ellen raised her large family in both Harding and Morris Township, New Jersey. Her passion for antiques resulted in the founding of several antique stores during her lifetime.
In her second half of life, Ellen moved to Reading, Pennsylvania. Always an energetic entrepreneur, she once again started several businesses. Her favorite was her drapery and slipcover business, 'Window Techniques.' Ellen's spirited view of life resulted in other passionate interests, including playing the piano and boomba, roller skating, traveling and backgammon.
Ellen is survived by her nine children: Thomas (Charlotte) Kastner, Dave (Dale) Kastner, Tobias (Karman) Kastner, Rebecca Kastner, Daniel Kastner, Elizabeth Kastner Alora (Carmen), Johanna Worley (Charles), Benjamin Worley, Gabe Worley (Peggy), along with 15 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Ellen is survived by her sister, Barbara DeHaven, of Ringtown, PA.
