John J. Makara, 65, of Walnut Street, Ringtown, passed away Thursday at Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street.
Born in Hazleton, Dec. 4, 1948, he was a son of Margaret Krutz Makara, Weston, and the late John Makara.
John was raised in Weston, and after graduating from West Hazleton High School, he served in the Army overseas in Korea.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Weston.
John was retired, having worked as a machine operator at the former Genova factory, Humbolt, for more than 30 years.
He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Surviving, in an addition to his mother, are his wife of 37 years, Betty Lorah Makara, Ringtown; daughter, Christine, wife of Frank Ratkiewicz, Ringtown; two sisters, Barbara Pasdon, Tomhicken, and Lorraine Knelly, Nuremberg; and grandson, Garrett, who was his best buddy.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Church, Weston. Relatives and friends are asked to meet at the church prior to the service.
