Obituary

Joan M. Mensinger, 79, of Phineyville Heights, Ringtown, passed away Monday in Hazleton.

Joan was born in Sheppton, March 16, 1936, a daughter of the late Mae Lorah and Henry Bley.

After graduation, Joan worked for Blue Cross/Blue Shield in Philadelphia. She married and raised a family then returned to work, working as a secretary at Supermarkets General Corp., Woodbridge, N.J., until retirement.

A member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Brandonville, she also belonged to East Union Township Senior Citizens. Joan was an avid bingo player and enjoyed doing word searches. She and her husband loved to travel and visited all of the lower 48 states.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Albert, in infancy; and sisters, Shirley Novatnak and Elaine Miller.

Joan is survived by her husband, Wardell Mensinger, with whom she would have celebrated 60 years of marriage in June. She is also survived by a daughter, Linda, wife of Raymond Nunez, of East Greenwich, R.I.; a son, Paul Mensinger and his wife, Chris, Hagerman, Idaho; a sister, Gloria Smith, Hazleton; grandchildren, David, Cara, Rebecca, Maria, Justin and Staci; great-granddaughter, Ryah; nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Brandonville. Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Stauffer-Breznik Funeral Home, 412 W. Main St., Ringtown, and again from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will take place in Brandonville Union Cemetery following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, Brandonville.
