Obituary

Frederick "Fred" Glow, West Main Street, Ringtown, passed away peacefully Saturday evening.

Born in Shenandoah in 1936, Fred's family moved to Ringtown when he was seven. He attended Ringtown schools, played on the 1952-53 Columbia County championship basketball team and was vice president of his junior and senior classes.

Fred was awarded a full scholarship to Lehigh University, where he majored in mining engineering and was awarded a gold watch for his excellence in academic studies. While at Lehigh, he participated in ROTC studies and was commissioned a lieutenant upon graduation.

Fred joined the U.S. Steel Corp. in Uniontown but was called to active duty in the Army. Serving at Fort Belvoir, Va., he was adjutant of the 30th Engineering Battalion as well as commanding officer of the 523rd Engineering Detachment, with a mission of tracking satellites.

After his discharge in 1950, he married Geraldine Pereira and raised two children, Vickie and Leslie. They enjoyed moving to many parts of the country while he pursued his career, working for both Westinghouse and Honeywell. He then worked for the Foxboro Co. after working for 19 years, participating in industrial automation projects, making several trips to India and earning him a promotion to industry sales manager, responsible for one-fourth of the company's business.

Fred retired from the Automation Research Co., where he was vice president. He developed custom automation studies as well as research reports forecasting automation trends. There, he had the privilege of making presentations and assisting the leaders of major corporations in developing their future business plans. Upon retirement, Fred and his wife, Gerri, decided to settle down in an area they were familiar with, Ringtown.

Fred is survived by his beloved wife of more than 50 years, Geraldine; and daughters, Vicki of Sante Fe, N.M., and Leslie, and her husband, David, Tyngsboro, Mass. He is also survived by a granddaughter, Katherine; and a grandson, Joseph, both of Tyngsboro, Mass. Other surviving relatives include Mary Voccola, Punta Gorda, Fla.; Joseph B. Pereira, Frackville; Valerie and Michael Bendt and their children, Alicia, Michele and Justin, all of Connecticut.

Fred's wishes for private services and burial will be honored by his family. Memorial donations, in lieu of flowers, are asked to be made to the Ringtown Area Library, in his memory. Stauffer-Breznik Funeral Home, 412 W. Main St., Ringtown, is assisting Fred's family during this time of need. More information is available at www.ringtownfuneral.com.
