Florence E. Disabella, 83, of Ringtown, passed away Sunday at Shenandoah Manor Senior Living Community, where she had been a recent resident.
Born in Ringtown, Sept. 6, 1930, she was a daughter of the late John Ellis and Dola Heffner Shoup. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 10 siblings.
A graduate of Conygham Township High School, Flossie enrolled in nursing school, only to postpone her education to raise her family. She worked as a waitress locally in Sacco's and Semanchyk's, Ringtown, and assisted with catering at DeTurks, Shenandoah. She was also a seamstress having worked in the local garment industry prior to returning to school to earn her licensed practical nurse from the Schuylkill AVTS in 1974. She last worked as an LPN for Good Samaritan Hospital.
Flossie was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Ringtown, where she was a former choir member and Sunday and bible school teacher. She was a former member of the Northern Valley Medical Center Board and a founding member of the Ringtown Community Ambulance, where she also volunteered as an EMT. She also spent 12 years as a Girl Scout leader in Ringtown.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Neil Disabella, Ringtown; two daughters, Sylvia Jean Cook-Edling, Schuylkill Haven, and Roxanne L. Disabella-Costa, Blandon; two sons, Lester H. Cook, Campbellsville, Ken., and Vincent Neil Disabella, Bear, Del.; two brothers, Kermit Shoup and Ronald Shoup, both of Ringtown; a sister, Marie Lapotsky, Phoenixville; 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Pastor Jay Serafin will conduct a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. John's Lutheran Church, West Main Street, Ringtown. Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Stauffer-Breznik Funeral Home, 412 W. Main St., Ringtown, and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church prior to the service. Flossie will be laid to rest at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, following the service.
