Eleanor M. Weikel, 90, of Ringtown, passed away Monday at Schuylkill Medical Center-East Norwegian Street.
Born in Ringtown, Aug. 14, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Raymond and Anna Possessky Weikel.
She was raised in Yatesville and graduated from the former Mahanoy Township High School, then she returned to Ringtown in 1951.
She was a member of St. Mary Roman Catholic Church in Ringtown, where she was a member of the former Sodality.
Prior to retirement, Eleanor worked as a seamstress in the local garment industry and was a member of the ILGWU. Eleanor was also an assistant at the Ringtown Library for many years.
She was an avid bowler and also enjoyed playing bingo, trips to the casino and scratch-off lottery tickets.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon J. Weikel, in 1956; sister, Katherine Timmons; and brother, Edward Weikel.
Eleanor is survived by two daughters, Ann Lewis, Stroudsburg. and Mary Zimmerman, Schnecksville; two sons, James "Slugger" Weikel and Gordy Weikel, both of Ringtown; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Church, Ringtown. Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday and 9 to 9:45 a.m. Saturday at Stauffer-Breznik Funeral Home, 412 W. Main St., Ringtown.
