Alex A. "Herky" Paskewicz, 83, of Ringtown, a former resident of Shenandoah, passed away Monday while a guest at Providence Place, Pine Grove.
Born in Shenandoah, Aug. 14, 1931, he was a son of the late Alex and Mary Yesconis Paskiewicz.
After high school, he served in the Army as a private during the Korean War.
Herky started working in the grocery business as a delivery boy at the age of 9. He was employed by the former A&P Supermarket in Shenandoah and the surrounding area for more than 30 years until his retirement.
He was a lifetime member of the Polish American Fire Company and Shenandoah Archery Club. He enjoyed fishing and trips to Canada with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Walter and Albert.
Herky is survived by his wife, Florence Ogozalek Paskewicz; three daughters, Cyndi O'Brien, North Carolina, Sandee Fritz, Ringtown, and Donna DiBuo, Luzerne; a sister, Stella, McAllisterville; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Divine Mercy Parish Church, West Cherry Street, Shenandoah, with Monsignor Ronald C. Bocian as the celebrant. Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass at the church. Interment will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, at a later date.In lieu of flowers, his family asks to make donations in his memory to the Polish American Fire Company, 115 W. Centre St., Shenandoah. Stauffer-Breznik Funeral Home, Ringtown, is assisting his family during their time of need.
