Walter Kuczynski
August 21, 1929 ~ August 6, 2017 (age 87) 87 Years OldWalter Kuczynski, 87, of Green Mountain Road, Zion Grove, passed away early Sunday, August 6th, 2017 at his home.
Walter was born in Shenandoah on August 21, 1929, a son of the late Catherine and Stanley Kuczynski.
He was a decorated veteran of the United States Army, serving his country during the Korean War.
He was retired after 25 years of service with the Department of Environmental Resources, Bureau of Forestry, and was a Forest Fire Warden for over 55 years. A true outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid fly fisherman.
He was a member and former officer of the Park Crest Fish and Game Club; a member of the Shenandoah Fish and Game Club, and was a member of St. Mary's Church in Ringtown.
The last member of his immediate family, he was preceded in death by 3 brothers, 4 sister, and a grandson, Eric.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Evelyn (Rescavage) Kuczynski, and by his eight children, Diane Mervine, of Frackville; Marie Dillard, of Morea; Susan Kurtek, of Ashland; June Ann O'Brien, of Coal Twp.: David, of Mahanoy City; Walter, Jr., of Mahanoy Plane; Kenneth, of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Robert, of Zion Grove.
He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and by his beloved hunting companion, his springer spaniel, Maggie.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Church, North Center Street, Ringtown, at 11 AM on Thursday, August 10th, with Father Brian M. Miller officiating. Relatives and friends are asked to meet at the church for the Mass, as no services will be held at the funeral home.
