Helena M. Schmidt, 85, formerly of Nuremberg, went to be with her Lord and Savior on July 9th, 2018, while a guest at the Mt. City Nursing Center in Hazle Township.
Helena was born in Sugarloaf, on October 9, 1932, a daughter of the late Pearl (Travelpiece) and William Heckrote.
She worked as a seamstress in the local garment industry, as well as owning and operating a bakery with her husband in Nuremberg until 1972
In 2013, she was preceded in death by her husband, Russell E. Schmidt.
She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Betty Eveland and Carrie Pettit; a brother, William Heckrote and by a great granddaughter, Abigail Johnston.
Helena is survived by her children, Debby, wife of Tom Detemore, of New Jersey; Russell Schmidt and his wife Suzann, of Mt. Grove; Jill, wife of Joe Marshall, of Weston; Marybeth Schmidt, of Nuremberg; Kay, wife of Wes Martin, of Shumantown; James Schmidt, and his wife Anna, of Evans City; and a brother Jim Heckrote, of Sugarloaf.
She is also survived by 15 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Helena will be laid to rest following graveside services at the Nuremberg Cemetery.
