WILLIAM 'BILL' ZIMERMAN

William S. (Zip) Zimmerman, 79, of Old Berwick Road, Bloomsburg, passed away Tuesday, May 26th, at the Bloomsburg Health Center after a lengthly illness.

William was born in Shenandoah, PA on December 7, 1929, the son of the late William and Blanche (Dresher) Zimmerman. Raised in the Ringtown Valley, he began working on local farms prior to enlisting in the United States Army, where he served as a private. He then drove truck in the local coal mines.

William lived in the Souderton area where he worked as a mechanic for George Yocum Ford in Lansdale for over 30 years, and was a member of the Souderton Perseverance Fire Company.

Bill and his wife of 58 years, Ruth (Houser) Zimmerman, moved back to the Bloomsburg area 15 years ago. He was a member of Saint John's Lutheran Church in Espy. Bill enjoyed fishing as well as polka and county music.

William was preceded in death by a grandson, Bruce Zimmerman and a brother, Donald Zimmerman.

In addition to his wife Ruth, he is survived by two daughters, Betsy wife of Terry Groff, Souderton; Laurie wife of Rohn Burrage, West Barnstable, MA and four sons William Jr. and his wife Nancy of Pennsburg, Thomas and his wife Sandy of Quakertown, Kenneth of Bloomsburg and David and his wife Christy of Benton. William is also survived by two sisters, Virginia Neiswender of Ringtown and Frances Zimmerman of North Wales along with two brothers, Thomas Zimmerman of Lansdale and Robert Zimmerman of Wilmington, DE. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service will be held at the Stauffer-Breznik Funeral Home, 412 West Main Street, Ringtown at 11 AM on Saturday, May 30th, with his Pastor, Gordon Smith officiating.

Relatives and friends are invited to call Saturday morning from 9:30 AM until the time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will be St. John's Cemetery, Ringtown, immediatley following the service.
