
James E. Compton, Jr., 47, of 105 North Center Street, Ringtown, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday evening at his residence.
Born in Reading on January 8, 1962, he is the son of James and Evelyn (Rupert) Compton of Ringtown.
Jim was a 1979 graduate of the North Schuylkill High School and a 1983 graduate of Penn State University, and was employed as a group leader at Jeld-Wen in Ringtown, where he has worked for over 25 years. A former member of the Ringtown Borough Council, he had served as council president for several years.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Ringtown. An avid camper, he had enjoyed traveling all over the United States and also enjoyed working in his garden.
In addition to his parents, Jim is survived by his wife, Virginia 'Ginny' (Wood) Compton, a daughter, Sherri Compton, and a step son, Paul Wetzel.
Jim is also survived by a sister, Pamela Klase of Washington, and his grandmother, Blanche Compton of Harrisburg along with aunts, uncles and cousins.
Memorial donations in memory of Jim are asked to be made to the Ringtown Area Library or St. John's Lutheran Church of Ringtown.
Private services will be held at the convenience of his family.
