GRACE GILBERT

Grace Gilbert, 87, of Center Street, Ringtown passed away Tuesday morning at the Shenandoah Manor Nursing Center.

Born in Mahanoy City on July 7, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Lena (Pell) DeFrehn. Grace was a 1939 graduate of the Mahanoy City High School, and was retired from the former Ringtown Dress Factory.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Ringtown, Grace was active in the former Woman's Club of the church, a member of the Ladies Aid, and the Lutheran Welfare Auxiliary. She was also a Sunday school teacher and member of the senior choir.

She was also a lifetime member of the Ringtown American Legion Auxiliary, a member of the Ringtown Senior Citizens, and a member of the Mahanoy City Women's Club. Grace was also a board member of the Friends of the Ringtown Area Library.

Grace served on the election board for over 20 years, and was a member of the PA Voters Hall of Fame, having voted for over 50 consecutive years.

Grace was preceded in death by her husband Lester D. Gilbert in 1981, along with sisters, Stella DeFrehn, Emma Mallick, Margaret Goodman and Amelia Guyer.

Surviving are her son, Lester Gilbert, and his wife Gayle or Grantville. A grandson, Matthew of Grantville, and two brothers, Elmer (Bud) DeFrehn of North Wales and Edward DeFrehn and his wife Mildred of Mahanoy City, Nieces and nephews also survive.

A Funeral Service will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church, West Main Street, Ringtown at 11 AM on Saturday morning. Relatives and friends are invited to call from 9 AM until the time of the service at the church. Burial will be in St. John's Memorial Park, Ringtown.
