James L. Cowher, II, beloved husband and father, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, August 23rd, 2016.

Jim was born in Norfolk, Virginia on February 21, 1968, a son of the late Judith (Neff)  and James  Cowher.

He was raised in the Altoona, PA area , graduating from the Altoona High School, then served the US Army, prior to fulfilling his military obligation by serving in the Army reserves until 1995.

He then became employed by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, working as a Corrections Officer at the State Correctional Institution in Frackville, where he was a Lieutenant. 

Jim was an outdoorsman, who enjoyed running and mountain biking.  He was an avid fan of the Pittsburg Steelers.

He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Karen (Anderson) Cowher,  his daughter, Hayley Anderson of Ringtown, along with their border collie, Star.

Jim is also survied by two sisters, Barbara Cowher, of Altoona and Judith Hardsock, of Chambersburg and by his step father, Edward Neff of Altoona.

An aunt and uncle, June and Harris Gowdy of Ringtown, survive, as do two nieces, Dawn Thomas of Frackville and Tia Cruz of Altoona along with one great nephew and two great nieces.

Honoring Jim's privacy and love for his family, Private Funeral Services will be held at the Stauffer-Breznik Funeral Home.
