Helen I. Grow, 86, a formerly of Ringtown, currently residing in Enola, passed away Wednesday.

Helen was born in Philadelphia, June 18, 1930, a daughter of the late Russell Huss and Helen Talerovich.

She was a 1948 graduate of the former Ringtown High School, and went on to marry her high school sweetheart, Daniel G. Grow Sr., with whom she shared more than 52 years of marriage, until he passed away in May 2003.

A member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Ringtown, she managed the church kitchen for more than 20 years, where she was very well known for her coleslaw and stuffing (filling) recipes. She enjoyed canning vegetables and was known for her famous apple sauce. She excelled at crossword puzzles and made many people laugh with her long list of idioms, metaphors and similes.

She was a member of the Order of the Easter Star, Chapter 154, Ashland, and was a Past Worthy Matron. She was also member and past president of the Ringtown American Legion Ladies Auxillary, where she funded and spearheaded the remodeling of the Auxillary Meeting Room at the Legion Post Home in Ringtown, a project in memory of her late husband.

A lifelong homemaker and mother of five, Helen is survived by her children, Jane, wife of Greg Long, Marysville, Diane, wife of Terry Ramey, Moorestown, N.J., Donna "Dee," wife of Ralph Guida, Enola, Daniel and his wife, Debra Grow, Ringtown, and Russell Grow, at home, to whom Helen devoted her life to caring for his well being. She was affectionately known as "Nana" to her ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. John's Lutheran Church, West Main Street, Ringtown, with Pastor Jay Serafin officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing Sunday afternoon from 3 to 6 p.m. at Stauffer-Breznik Funeral Home, 412 W. Main St., Ringtown, and again on Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, prior to the service. Helen will be laid to rest alongside her husband, Daniel, at St. John's Memorial Park in Ringtown, following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Helen's memory are asked to be made to St. John's Church, Ringtown. Stauffer-Breznik Funeral Home, Ringtown, is assisting Helen's family during this time of need.
